Ironhorse Corridor
Contra Costa County

The Ironhorse Corridor is an old railroad right of way converted into a public trail system. The Iron Horse Corridor Greenspace project is a 7-acre section of this corridor located between the Pleasant Hill BART station and a residential community. The narrowly linear nature of the site, the flat terrain, numerous existing oak trees and the existing utility easements create a challenging site.  The goals of the master plan were to create an open greenspace, to continue the Iron Horse Trail and to create a sound/site buffer.  A main component the vision. The master plan process was to build consensus within the community, and to develop the final design vision. Community outreach and input included on-site tours, three public workshops, and meetings with various public agencies. SFE is currently preparing the construction documents.

Features:  Respite area with picnic tables and information kiosk; Public plaza; Native drought tolerant plantings; 2,400 linear feet of Iron Horse Trail; Separate pedestrian trails.
